Terms of Use
Plain rules for a small, temporary tool. By using Hama you accept them.
Last updated August 2026
Accepting these terms
By opening Hama, creating a space, or joining one through a link, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the service.
There are no accounts and no sign-up, so there is nothing to sign. Use of the service is the agreement.
What Hama is
Hama creates temporary spaces for shared text and group chat. One tap on Share Text or Start Chat produces a short link such as hama.top/r/7Kp2mQa, plus a QR code you can show to people nearby. Visitors pick a nickname or receive an automatic one (Guest 1, Guest 2, and so on).
Hama is free and is provided as-is. There is no uptime guarantee, no service level agreement, and no support contract. The service may be slow, unavailable, changed, or discontinued at any time without notice.
Spaces are temporary
Ephemerality is the core of the product, not a side effect. You should treat every space as something that will disappear.
- Inactive spaces are permanently deleted every day at 00:00 UTC. A space that still has someone in it at that moment survives until the next day's run.
- The time between a space emptying and its deletion is not fixed. It can be seconds, or it can be close to a full day. Do not rely on any particular window.
- The creator can delete a space instantly at any time. That removes everyone still inside and erases the content.
- Deletion is permanent. Nothing is recoverable afterwards, by you or by us.
Hama is not a backup or an archive
Keep your own copy of anything you need to keep. Content stored only in a Hama space will be lost, and we cannot restore it.
Acceptable use
You may not use Hama to create, store, send, or link to:
- content that is illegal where you are, or where the recipients are;
- any material that sexualises minors, in any form. This has no exceptions and no context that makes it acceptable;
- harassment, stalking, threats of violence, or incitement to violence;
- malware, exploits, or anything designed to damage devices or systems;
- phishing pages, credential harvesting, fraud, or impersonation;
- spam, bulk unsolicited messaging, or link farms;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.
You also may not attack or abuse the service itself. Specifically, do not:
- work around rate limits, or automate requests to avoid them;
- scrape, bulk-download, or mirror the public directory or Hama search;
- try to exceed the published limits: 100 people per space, 49 MB per file, 10 minutes per voice message;
- probe, load-test, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or its infrastructure.
Your content and your links
You are responsible for what you write, upload, and share, and for who you give links to. Anyone holding the full link to a space can open it. For a Private + Open space the encryption key is part of the link itself, so sharing that link shares the ability to read everything in it.
Passing a link to someone is your decision, and it cannot be undone once shared. If a link has spread further than you intended, delete the space.
Public spaces are public
Public and open content is not confidential. Public spaces may appear in Hama search, and their chat messages and shared text are indexed. Do not put confidential information, personal data about other people, credentials, or anything you would not post openly into a public space. Private spaces are not searchable.
Moderation and reports
Private spaces are Zero-Knowledge. Encryption and decryption happen in your browser, and our servers only ever store ciphertext. We have no technical ability to read a private space, so we cannot review, moderate, or act on its contents. That limitation is deliberate, and it applies to Hama staff as well as to everyone else.
Public content is different. If you find public content that breaks these terms, report it through the Support page. Support is one-way: your message is encrypted in your browser with the admin's public key and sent to us, but there is no reply channel inside Hama, so we cannot respond to you or ask follow-up questions.
We may remove public content, block a space, or restrict access from an address or network without prior notice where we believe these terms have been broken or the service is being abused.
Limits
- Up to 100 people in one space at the same time. Person 101 is asked to try again shortly.
- Maximum file size is 49 MB.
- Voice messages are up to 10 minutes long.
- Rate limits apply to space creation, search, uploads, and support messages. They exist to keep a free service usable for everyone.
These limits may be adjusted as the service evolves.
No warranty
Hama is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that the service will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or secure against every possible attack, or that content will be preserved for any length of time. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost content, lost data, lost profits, missed opportunities, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Hama. This includes content deleted by the daily cleanup, content deleted by a space creator, content lost because a password was forgotten, and content exposed because a link was shared with the wrong person.
Hama cannot recover a forgotten password. For a Private + Password space, the key is derived from the password in your browser with Argon2id and the password never leaves your device. If it is forgotten, the content is permanently unreadable.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the service changes. The date at the top of this page shows the last update. Continued use of Hama after a change means you accept the updated terms. Since there are no accounts, we have no way to notify you individually.
Contact
Questions, abuse reports, and legal notices go through the Support page. Remember that Support is one-way and we cannot reply inside Hama, so include everything relevant in a single message.
